2018 was the year of a viciously cruel immigration policy. The drama of the Kavanaugh hearings. Trump’s love affair with a dangerous dictator. Trump protected Russian-manufactured asbestos cement from the EPA. And so much more. Ugh.

Trump makes immigration policies cruel again. Trump reformed Obama’s immigration policy in 2017, with an even more inhumane twist — stealing children away from their parents — but it wasn’t until 2018 that the media really started investigating the administration’s covert separation activities.

It wasn’t until 2018 that the Trump administration announced a “zero tolerance” immigration policy, and the fight against it began in earnest.

Back in November 2017, the Houston Chronicle reported that Trump was moving to end the Obama policy of “catch and release“, which ”refers to a practice of releasing a migrant to the community while he or she awaits hearings in immigration court, as an alternative to holding them in immigration detention. However, the full extent of the separation policy wasn’t known at that time.
