“Dictator On Day One” — and THEN WHAT?
Trump and his enablers have been telling us who they are, and what they will do. It’s not pretty.
I have to admit, ever since Trump announced his second candidacy two years ago, I’ve been feeling a low-level existential dread. Although I’d eagerly lap up like a starving dog any news of progress on the criminal justice front that made it seem like he’d finally be held accountable for his myriad crimes the last couple of years only to be almost immediately let down (“34 convictions! Yay!” “What, the sentencing got postponed?? BOO”-you get the idea), I’m GenX.
I’m interminably cynical and hopeless, having grown up during Watergate, Iran-Contra, and the politicization of 9/11 by the Bush adminstration for war profiteering.
I’ve seen so much corruption and crime that never got punished, it’s ridiculous. Crooks, rapists, war criminals, and sex pests continually go unpunished in our government. Judicial candidates with credible sexual harassment and assault allegations keep getting elevated to the highest court.
Bill Barr, who helped cover up Iran-Contra, became Trump’s top law enforcement official (and then proceeded to help him pardon criminals and go after his opponents and now makes bank at a cushy law firm.)
